Diegetic sounds: A diegetic sound is any sound from what is shown on the screen or not shown at all but is a part of the story being told.
Non - diegetic sounds: A non - diegetic sound is any sound that is played which does not occur with the story being told. E.g. Narrator speaking or mood music.
Synchronous Sound: A synchronous sound is a sound which occurs off screen.
Asynchronous sound: A asynchronous sound is a sound which is played and relates to the action on the screen.
